그동안 100% 해외 수입에 의존하던 '디지털시네마' 기술을 국내 연구진이 개발해 상용화에 성공했다.
한국전자통신연구원(ETRI)은 콘텐츠유통연구팀 윤기송 박사팀이 대형 화면의 고화질 영화에 적용할 수 있는 '디지털시네마' 핵심 원천기술 개발에 성공했다고 8일 밝혔다.
이번에 개발된 기술은 부산 국제영화제 출품작 '마이 라띠마'를 비롯한 약 30여편의 국내 영화에 이미 적용됐다.
디지털시네마 기술은 영화의 촬영, 편집, 상영에 이르는 과정에서 영상화 음향을 디지털로 변환시키고 최종 편집된 영화를 디지털 영사기를 통해 상영하는 전 과정을 일컫는다. 이 디지털시네마 기술은 기존 소니, 돌비 등 해외 경쟁사 제품에 비해 제작 소요시간이 평균 15% 이상 빨라졌으며 상호 완벽한 호환성을 제공한다는 것이 특징이다. 또 약 2억원대에 달하는 가격을 절반 이하로 낮췄으며 이를 통해 세계시장에서 가격 및 기술경쟁력을 갖췄다는 평가다.
윤기송 박사는 "디지털시네마 핵심원천기술은 기존 외산 제품에 비해 성능 및 가격에 있어 월등한 경쟁력을 갖추고 있다"며 "현재 국내외 특허 20건을 출원했으며 4개 업체에 2억 7,000만원 규모의 기술이전도 완료한 상태"라고 말했다. 그는 또 "약 18억 달러 규모의 세계 마스터링 시장 진출을 위한 경쟁 우위기술을 확보했다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다"고 덧붙였다.
